If I had known that the upgrade would delete all my previous issues I never would have upgraded. Fix this and restore the issues or I will contact your CEO and tell him why I am canceling my Economist Subscription. Please terminate the idiot that had this Brilliant idea!
For all their journalistic brilliance, the baffling incompetence of The Economist in the digital domain is almost comical. Neither the weekly papers app nor this app ever seems to work properly. Right now, they managed to release an "upgrade" that wipes out ALL previous editions of the magazine. And there is no way of bringing them back. I continue reading the weekly paper on paper. But I am having a hard time taking The Economist seriously.
I am baffled that the update excluded all prior IL editions. It was always such a delight to linger, intellectually lovingly, over the articles current and prior. Is this progress or arrogant stupidity. Please repair
I love the the overall UI design and the high quality content of the magazines. However, each issue takes ages to download due to the relatively big size. Also, each app update wipes out the downloaded issues for no apparent reasons, which is a pain. At least there should be a warning in each update description, so users can hold off updating until theyve finished reading the downloaded issues.
I thoroughly enjoy the articles in each and every issue.
I was previously a big fan of this app, as I love The Economists Intelligent Life magazine. However, the app just seems to freeze and crash now, and is essentially unusable at this point.
Quality, interesting, well written.
This version of the app does not provide access to back issues (prior to early-2015) as the old app did (prior to version 2.0). Essentially the 2.0 update (and IL) deleted all the old issues from my tablet. THAT is Not cool. Ill do my own deleting on my tablet, thanks. With that in mind I have removed this app as I have enough to read (that I PAY for) without being annoyed by the shenanigans of a free periodical. I suspect that IL will soon be asking US readers to start paying up. And fair enough, I certainly WOULD have paid up, but not after this stunt.
So far I have had a great experience with the app and really love the articles. Good read!
Excellent content and nice UI ruined by the deletion of pre-2015 content upon updating that other reviewers have mentioned. Very frustrating!
Intelligent Life is one of the few things I look forward to reading every month. Honestly. This app brings some really great writing right to my iPad with no discernible trouble. Love it!
A joy to receive every other month. No problem whatsoever with the app or download time. I look forward to each edition.
Great complement to Economist.
Much improved performance and stability. Editions are now smaller and download quicker.
Excellent writing, witty language and interesting coverage. If you like the Economist, then 1843 is written for you. Its written by many of the same reporters and editors as for the Economist itself. We get to learn their names for the first time. Its worth reading.
1843 is another breakthrough by The Economist. A superb new magazine. Diverse and outstanding!!!
An eclectic publication covering diverse topics that should be of interest to a wide audience. Topics such as food, travel, wines, personalities are well-written. The writing is very good- informative as well as entertaining. Looking forward to more issues.
A nice mix of topics for the culturally diverse urban dweller
The Economist has a culture, ideas and neat stuff sister publication. While I listen to the audio edition of The Economist front to back, I find digitally flipping through the images and text in 1843 is better suited to the graphics. Just about every issue has a seriously memorable article, usually worth forwarding by e-mail to my favorite folks. Suggest you give it a try, as this is a remarkable publication.
