1843 magazine App Reviews

Ive been a loyal reader of IL, and reading the magazine for free is one of the reasons I bought an iPad; however, I dont like that, with a new editor, they simply decided to change the name just like that. 1843 means nothing to me, nor I dont think it does to other people (unless theyre fans of the history of The Economist). If you say "Im reading Intelligent Life" you sound intellectual; it gives you social capital. But with "1843", the title does not mean anything to me; it doesnt show any personality. I dont think changing the name is necessary to show an evolution in the mag. Aside, the app does need some work. I preferred the previous version where you could see all the magazines like a stack, and then you could choose which one to read. It gives a better overall view of the magazines. Plus, its quite hard to share the articles on social media. Even more, when you want to listen to an article, you need to click on the toolbar and THEN select the audio you want to listen to, which is quite dumb considering you have the speaker icon right there on the article!! Please fix this. Finally, itd be nice to be able to see the images in a larger size, why not have the option to make them bigger by clicking on them?

I love reading this magazine every issue, cover to cover. Always something new (to me), engaging and very well written. Excellent photography as well!

Since the app changed to 1843 I can upload only one issue, one from 4 months back. Thats it...Someone made a big boo boo and needs to fix this!!

It is a good read

I am very happy with the look and feel of the app. Excellent work by the Economist group.

As a life long reader of The Economist, I have come to appreciate 1834s more in depth, socially and historical articles. Writing in the clear and crisp well edited style that The Economist is known for, makes even the pieces on the denser subjects a pleasure to read. 1834 allows this reader a chance to happen on subjects they have little or knowledge of and come away, if only by chance, with a little more knowledge of the universe and society around them.

There is excellent writing here on a regular basis. The stories are interesting and enjoyable.

1843 is an amazing magazine. The range of subject matter is excellent. The quality of writing is consistent and incomparable. What a joy to read!

Beautiful to read, mix of media, topics you never knew youd care about, an ideal read all around.

Enlightening and thought provoking

This latest version cancels and does not allow you to see previously downloaded issues any more. I hope they are planning to fix this, but beware and update at your own risk!

Great app functionality and great content

The Christmas edition of The Economist has always been a joy to read - unexpected and delightful topics always well written. Now this same approach is available more frequently. Highest marks for this effort.

Ive been a loyal reader of the Intelligent Life. Dating the name back to 1853 turned out the time travel feat the magazine needed. The app is great btw.

Really, really well done - highly recommend the app. Its beautiful to look at and a pleasure to read.
